Good Teams Gone Bad

Image
Have you ever been a fan of a team that historically has been dominant but now sucks so much it hurts to watch? Lately, this has been my life. It’s like a virus that keeps spreading to each one of my favorite sports teams. If you think I’m crazy keep reading, I swear this is real.       As I am sitting here writing this, behind my computer are a bunch of red and blue blobs moving quickly around the screen. Chelsea F.C. versus Liverpool F.C.; a game for the ages. Well, at least it used to be. Historically Chelsea Football Club, a Premier League soccer team, has dominated the soccer world. Eight FA Cup titles, five League Cup titles, two Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Champions League titles, a FIFA Club World Cup title and countless others. In the 2009-10 season, they won their first and only “double:” a Premier League title and the Football Association Cup title. They became the fourth club in history to win a “Erupean Trebel” which consists of winning three majo

Blogs, Vlogs and Everything In Between

Despite what many believe, blogging, vlogging and every other media just like them have played huge parts in our lives. To my generation, the first blogger was that dog from “Dog With a Blog” on Disney Channel and the first vlogger? None other than Teddy Duncan herself from “Good Luck Charlie.” Webinar legends Carly Shay and Sam Puckett walked so Brent Rivera could run. Whether we realize it or not, media forms like these had an impact on our lives growing up and continue to today.  While it isn’t the most prominent form of media in today’s society, blogging is actually thriving with 77% of internet users reading blogs (Charello, 2023). There are hundreds of different types of blogs for every type of person out there, from your usual food and fashion blogs to specific gaming and entertainment blogs. Another reason blogging has become popular is due in part to its role in marketing. Blogging has many benefits for marketers and their business, it allows them to reach larger a

Social Media Mayhem

In the last 20 years the term “social media” has changed many times. From its humble beginnings in a Harvard dorm room to its widely known and controversial development, social media has seen its fair share of changes over the years.       Growing up in the generation of the iPhone I’ve never not known technology. In elementary school, they taught us how to type on computers before teaching us cursive. I had my first phone by 5th grade and laptop by 6th grade. While social media was originally used for communication, it has quickly grown into many different networks, branching out into marketing and selling as well. A whole new career has been made out of this idea of social media; what it is, how to use it, and why people should use it.       And while this newfound success in the world of social media has been great for lots of people, it is creating a-- mainly generational-- gap within the workforce. Older generations tend to lack the skills that social media requires, making t

Run It Back: Spring Semester Part 2

Image
The Fall is personally my favorite season; I’m in season for soccer, college football is starting up, everyone is back at school and the weather is just cool enough to wear a light jacket. The Fall will always be my favorite. However, after last year there is a little part of me that enjoys the Spring.       Coming back to a frozen-over Ada, Ohio was not the ideal start to my second semester of college. Honestly, I don’t think it was anyone's. No part of me wanted to get out of my warm bed to hike across the Tundra for a 9 A.M. Genetics class that had nothing to do with my major. I thought to myself, “This semester is going to suck.” Luckily enough, I was sorely mistaken.       Being a Fall athlete I never got to really experience what it was like to be a college student when I first got here; my life was class, practice, bed, repeat. Never went to any school events, sporting events, or other gatherings… I was consumed by school and soccer. But with my newfound time, I was a
