The “Essentials of Social Media Marketing” Textbook Review

Image
No one likes reading a textbook. Every year students log on to buy codes and books that will most likely just sit on a shelf and collect dust until it’s time to return them at the end of the semester. That’s exactly how I felt buying this book. I couldn’t understand how you put information about social media in a textbook, something just seemed off. And on top of that, it was an online textbook, something I’ve never been fond of. Staring at a screen, losing my place while reading, and forgetting my login information is just so frustrating. To me, there’s just something about having the actual book in front of me that helps me comprehend the information. Although I will say, my back did thank me for having one less book in my bag.       For my principles of social media class, we used Stukent’s “Essentials of Social Media Marketing” textbook and simulation. I had never used Stukent before so trying to figure out how to use the o...

From My Ears to Yours: Unveiling My Favorite Podcast Gems

Image
Alright, I’ve finally decided to start my podcast up again. For a while I was hesitant, I was trying to manage my time, gather resources and I didn’t want to just half-ass it. Now, I have finally decided to take the jump and start it up again. In honor of that, I thought I would put together a list of my favorite podcasts to listen to. These podcasts are my go-to when I need a laugh, a thrilling story or just something for my drive home. I hope you find them just as entertaining as I do!  “New Heights” hosted by Jason and Travis Kelce  This is an obvious no-brainer. I first discovered this podcast on TikTok and for a while just watched clips on there. Honestly, I wish I would have started listening sooner because Travis and Jason are hilarious. The two brothers grew up in Cleveland Heights, a suburb outside the city of Cleveland, Ohio. They then went on to play at the University of Cincinnati together before being drafted into the NFL. As someone who’s always loved foot...

Social Media Workshop Preview: Interview with Abby Brock

Image
This week I had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Ohio Northern University alum Abby Brock. With a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in marketing and public relations and a love for the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) club, Brock graduated from the university in 2020. Although the world was in the midst of chaos Brock still managed to find her way in the social media world.       “[I] graduated in 2020 so I was a pandemic grad, umm a little hard to find some jobs after that but [I] was able to stumble upon a customer success role with a company called Bright Edge,” Brock said.  “I was there for about a year and a half and then I transitioned into an agency where I’m at currently called Global Prairie but it was formally called Hileman Group,”       Currently, Brock works as an associate of client partnership for Global Prairie at their Cleveland location where she works on client-ba...

Blogs, Vlogs and Everything In Between

Image
Despite what many believe, blogging, vlogging and every other media just like them have played huge parts in our lives. To my generation, the first blogger was that dog from “Dog With a Blog” on Disney Channel and the first vlogger? None other than Teddy Duncan herself from “Good Luck Charlie.” Webinar legends Carly Shay and Sam Puckett walked so Brent Rivera could run. Whether we realize it or not, media forms like these had an impact on our lives growing up and continue to today.  While it isn’t the most prominent form of media in today’s society, blogging is actually thriving with 77% of internet users reading blogs (Charello, 2023). There are hundreds of different types of blogs for every type of person out there, from your usual food and fashion blogs to specific gaming and entertainment blogs. Another reason blogging has become popular is due in part to its role in marketing. Blogging has many benefits for marketers and their business...

Run It Back: Spring Semester Part 2

Image
The Fall is personally my favorite season; I’m in season for soccer, college football is starting up, everyone is back at school and the weather is just cool enough to wear a light jacket. The Fall will always be my favorite. However, after last year there is a little part of me that enjoys the Spring.       Coming back to a frozen-over Ada, Ohio was not the ideal start to my second semester of college. Honestly, I don’t think it was anyone's. No part of me wanted to get out of my warm bed to hike across the Tundra for a 9 A.M. Genetics class that had nothing to do with my major. I thought to myself, “This semester is going to suck.” Luckily enough, I was sorely mistaken.       Being a Fall athlete I never got to really experience what it was like to be a college student when I first got here; my life was class, practice, bed, repeat. Never went to any school events, sporting events, or other gatherings… I was consumed b...
