Social Media Workshop Preview: Interview with Abby Brock
“[I] graduated in 2020 so I was a pandemic grad, umm a little hard to find some jobs after that but [I] was able to stumble upon a customer success role with a company called Bright Edge,” Brock said. “I was there for about a year and a half and then I transitioned into an agency where I’m at currently called Global Prairie but it was formally called Hileman Group,”
Currently, Brock works as an associate of client partnership for Global Prairie at their Cleveland location where she works on client-basing jobs, different marketing campaigns and all sorts of paid media and paid advertising.
When I asked her about some things students should expect or bring to the workshop Brock said, “I don't think anyone should ever come to a meeting or a presentation or a speaking event; you should always come with a question, don't ever not have a question,” Crediting this tip from her time in college, Brock continued explaining that the question doesn’t have to be anything complex or deep, it should just make you as a student seem prepared and excited to be there. “Any student should always have a question, [it] makes you look prepared, [it] makes you look like you were listening and weren't just here for credit,” she said.
When it comes to looking for a job or a career in social media Brock had one piece of advice that really stood out to me: continue to ask questions, continue to learn. I feel like so much of a career in social media is about making connections and talking to so many different people so asking questions and continuing to learn just fits perfectly, in my mind at least, with what the job entails in the first place.
I had so much fun talking with Abby on my podcast this week and can’t wait to hear her speak at the Ohio Northern Social Media Workshop coming up on March 22. If you’re attending the workshop as well make sure to give this episode a listen to learn more about Abby, her work in the social media industry and how to come prepared for the workshop.
