Educate Yourself: National Eating Disorder Awareness Week 2024

Image
The week of Feb. 26th through March 3rd is National Eating Disorder Awareness Week and while I haven’t ever been diagnosed with an eating disorder myself I believe that bringing awareness to this cause is extremely important. National Eating Disorder Awareness Week (NEDAW) is an annual campaign targeted at educating the public about eating disorders and providing hope for friends, families and those struggling with a disorder themselves. I have watched as many of my teammates, friends and loved ones have struggled with disordered eating and it’s something no one should ever have to go through.      Being a female athlete, however, eating disorders are unfortunately not hard to come by. 42% of female athletes have been diagnosed with an eating disorder while 70% have engaged in behaviors that can lead to a disorder. Actions such as restricting their eating or overworking their bodies are prime examples. Athletes in sports that focus more on individual performance such as cross

The Rise of Influencer Marketing

Image
When I say the word “influencer” what comes to mind? Maybe a teenager standing in front of a camera getting paid tons of money to brag about this company sending them free merchandise? Or maybe a 20-something-year-old who has risen to fame because they took one picture with an actor and now has brand deals with all these different companies? It doesn’t matter what you think of, the overall connotation of the word “influencer” is negative, but why? And why do companies continue to use influencers in their content strategy if there is such a negative connotation around it?  The word influencer is a more recent term added to our everyday vocabulary. Influencers themselves are still a newer idea to begin with. An influencer is someone who carries influence over others and in the case of social media, this entails a person with a big platform whose followers will listen to and do every little thing they say. If the influencer said that red wasn’t cool anymore, their followers wo

From My Ears to Yours: Unveiling My Favorite Podcast Gems

Alright, I’ve finally decided to start my podcast up again. For a while I was hesitant, I was trying to manage my time, gather resources and I didn’t want to just half-ass it. Now, I have finally decided to take the jump and start it up again. In honor of that, I thought I would put together a list of my favorite podcasts to listen to. These podcasts are my go-to when I need a laugh, a thrilling story or just something for my drive home. I hope you find them just as entertaining as I do!  “New Heights” hosted by Jason and Travis Kelce  This is an obvious no-brainer. I first discovered this podcast on TikTok and for a while just watched clips on there. Honestly, I wish I would have started listening sooner because Travis and Jason are hilarious. The two brothers grew up in Cleveland Heights, a suburb outside the city of Cleveland, Ohio. They then went on to play at the University of Cincinnati together before being drafted into the NFL. As someone who’s always loved football, this pod

The Trials and Tribulations of Facebook

Image
As the number one social media platform, advertising with Facebook seems like a no-brainer. The app reaches an audience of 1.98 billion people with a worldwide advertising revenue that has continuously grown year after year. However, with recent controversies and changes in algorithms, will Facebook be able to keep its top dog status for much longer?      For the most part, everyone knows the story of Facebook's humble beginnings in the Harvard dorm room of student Mark Zuckerberg back in 2004. And if you don’t, you need to watch “The Social Network” starring the gorgeous Andrew Garfield, Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Timberlake. While the film is loosely based on true events, it’s good enough for a quick run down.  Anyway, for years now Facebook has been growing like wildfire, becoming more and more popular by the day and making key investments along the way. In 2012 the company bought another highly used platform, Instagram and in 2019 they acquired WhatsApp as well. All of th

If you’re like me and you’ll be single this Valentine’s Day, I have the perfect recipes for you. While every couple on God’s green Earth will be dressing up for a fancy night on the town and spending a fortune worth on “love,” we single people will be enjoying the peace and quiet, doing whatever the heck we want to. Just because we’re single, however, doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the Hallmark-invented holiday. As the wise Ron Swanson once said, “People are idiots, Leslie.” So, in honor of this commercialized celebration, here are some ideas for the perfect Lonely Hearts dinner.            Homemade Bagel Bites Start to finish: 30 minutes  Servings: 12 No heart-shaped pizzas here, people. The Best Social Media Voices in the Game

Image
Many businesses have discovered that social media plays a crucial role in the way they market and advertise not only their products but their overall brand image as well. There are 10 steps to follow when creating a social media marketing strategy, however, I’m only going to focus on one today: Step 5: Establish a Tone of Voice.  A brand's tone of voice is a vital component when posting on social media. It must remain consistent across all platforms, appealing to both existing and potential customers. The company’s voice should reflect the brand's characteristics and convey messages effectively. Consumers are unlikely to respond positively to an advertisement that looks like a corporate memo; a connection and conversation between companies and consumers are essential. Companies can make their media content fun and entertaining while still being informative.  Here are some examples of companies that have perfected their tone of voice:           Duolingo       If
